Outdoor Photographer of the Year competition

We have been hard at work at Outdoor Photography magazine putting together a great new photo competition, the Outdoor Photographer of the Year. There are some great prizes on offer, 13 categories covering everything from wildlife photography and landscape photography to travel photography and environmental photography.

Don't miss out on entering; in January 2011, someone from somewhere in the world will be crowned the Outdoor Photographer of the Year.

You can find out all the details and enter at www.opoty.co.uk. Entries open on Wednesday 12th May, and the closing deadline is 30th September.

It could be you!!

Free knowledge!

You can't get enough knowledge, not in one lifetime anyway, so if you haven't seen it already go check out Chase Jarvis' brand new offering, Creative Live. He has roped in some of the big names in the business to give us knowledge for free.

What's the catch?? Well, there isn't really one. If you catch the seminars at the time they go out live, they are completely free. But if you want to source them from his archive of seminars, then there is a small fee. Seems pretty fair to me.

Mind warping 3D experience!

This is something for everyone who thought they had seen everything. If you want a glimpse of what imagery may become in future (or not so future years) take a look at this mind bending 3D virtual reality from GE.

If you don't want to go the whole hog and print off your own card to play with, just check out the 'How it works' video on the left hand side. If you have a web cam, then go right ahead and print off the card and try it for yourself.

Maybe a little over-priced for the Fuhrer!

This had me laughing into my cereals this morning. Worth a few minutes of your day to brighten your mood, unless you are a D3X owner.

Travellers' Tales Festival Success

Well, we survived!! The festival weekend was all we hoped it would be and then some more on top too. Of course, there were a few bits we didn't quite nail, but, especially being a travel photographer myself, overall it was an inspiring couple of days surrounded by some the best travel photography and travel writing talent on the planet. From Steve McCurry to Art Wolfe, Jonathan and Angie Scott to Colin Prior, this was a seriously heavyweight event.

We have already had some great feedback from speakers and visitors alike and are already looking forward to next year's festival.

I think the entire ground crew will take some days yet to recover from the intensive effort!

My travel photography exhibition in the festival seemed to go down well. The 30x20" prints looked great.

So, onwards and upwards and on to Travellers' Tales Festival 2010.

Colin Prior at the Travellers' Tales Festival

One of the world's best outdoor travel photographers, Colin Prior will now be speaking at the Travellers' Tales Festival this weekend. Renowned for his stunning panoramic travel images of some of the planet's wildest places, Colin is a founding member of the International League of Conservation Photographers.

He shot a series of British Airways calendars, during which he travelled more than one million miles and to 35 countries.

I've got a couple of his panoramics of Buchaille Etive in Scotland on my walls here in the house.

Catch his travel photography talk at 3.30pm on Sunday 1st March at the Royal Geographical Society.

Great photographers coming to town

It is now less than 2 weeks to the Travellers' Tales Festival, where legendary travel photographers Steve McCurry, Colin Prior, Art Wolfe and Jonathan Scott will all be speaking.

As well as the main lectures there are a raft of travel photography workshops and discussion panels, including ones with Steve Bloom, Stuart Franklin and Chris Steele Perkins.

This is a very rare chance to see any one of these speakers here in the UK and to see them all in one weekend is unique. Don't miss it!

Tickets are available from the Travellers' Tales Festival website.

As well as the big name travel photographers, there are many famous travel writers too, including Willaim Dalrymple, John Simpson, Colin Thubron and Alexander McCall Smith.

It's on Saturday 28th February and Sunday 1st March at the sumptuous Royal Geographical Society HQ in London.

See you there!
